Return to Hockey Update

Hello all,

As announced by the Chief Public Health Office (CPHO) at today’s PEI Public Health Briefing, on January 31st, team-organized practices of up to 20 consistent individuals will be permitted to take place. Should this go well, we suspect that all indicators point to games to follow in the weeks shortly after that, barring no further changes to the Government’s Public Health plans or the COVID-19 landscape.

Today, it was not clear from the CPHO message whether spectators are permitted into the facilities beginning January 31st during team-organized practices. Therefore, HPEI and the Facilities are working to clarify and provide further direction to the Associations.

We understand some teams are comprised of more than 20 individuals. We are looking into whether these sizes will be increased to allow for players and coaches where teams exceed 20 in total. 

Over the next couple of days, the Association will be working with teams on the logistics of practice times and getting the players back on the ice. As more information on spectators is provided, we will keep our membership updated.
