***IMPORTANT NOTICE*** ALL CONDITIONING CAMPS SUSPENDED UNITL FURTHER NOTICE
2021-09-12Yesterday, the Chief Public Health Office of PEI announced a positive case of COVID-19 out of the West Royalty Elementary School, which has led to an official outbreak with the announcement of six new related positive COVID-19 cases today.
The outbreak has also caused the closure of more than 15 schools in areas including Charlottetown, Sherwood Parkdale, and Stratford for the next three (3) days.
In addition to the school closures above, The CPHO has announced the suspension of recreational sports and extracurricular activities for children under the age of nineteen (19) in the Charlottetown area for the next three (3) days.
Due to the concerning outbreak and the measures imposed by the CPHO in relation to this news, Hockey PEI is announcing the suspension of all activity (on-ice and off-ice) for the following Minor Hockey Associations:
- Charlottetown Minor Hockey Association
- Sherwood Parkdale Rural Minor Hockey Association
- Pownal Minor Hockey Association
This means that members from the above-listed associations should not be taking part in any hockey-related activities in their home association or elsewhere on PEI.
Furthermore, Hockey PEI has also announced the suspension of all scheduled High Performance Program activities including today’s Atlantic Challenge Cup Practices in Summerside.
The CPHO did indicate the high chance that more cases are expected to be announced in the coming days once contact tracing can be completed. Hockey PEI will continue to monitor the situation and set out any additional restrictions as needed.
Today is an important reminder of why members should familiarize themselves with Hockey PEI’s Return to Hockey plan. This includes the mandatory masks-wearing policy for Players, Coaches and Officials, conducting proper contact tracing, keeping your hands washed/sanitized and most importantly, staying home if you are feeling unwell.
