Early Bird Tournament Volunteers Needed

The Sherwood-Parkdale Rural Minor Hockey Association (SPRMHA) is entering its 40th year for the Early Bird Minor Hockey Tournament. This tournament is one of the largest and most successful tournaments in the Maritimes. Each year, the tournament hosts a large number of male and female teams from Novice AA through Midget AAA from around the Maritimes. In 2016, 90 teams participated in the tournament which utilized 10 different ice surfaces from Pownal to Borden with Cody Banks Arena being the host rink.
The tournament has generated close to a quarter of a million dollars over the past 12 years for the Sherwood-Parkdale Rural Minor Hockey Association. This money is used to assist with the development program and reduce the overall costs for the entire Association. The Association relies heavily on these funds to offset costs and make hockey more affordable and attainable for our future hockey stars.
Over the past 40 years, the Association has had many great volunteers and participants involved in this tournament. Without the help of these many, many volunteers, this tournament would not have been as successful. The tournament requires a lot of planning and organizing from year to year. Therefore, the continued support of our volunteers is an absolute necessity to maintain the pride and dedication SPRMHA has shown in hosting this great tournament.
In order to maintain the high quality of our tournament and continue the success of an event that plays a critical role in offsetting costs for the entire membership, SPRMHA is looking for volunteers to help with the Early Bird Tournament for the upcoming season and beyond.
The Tournament Committee is looking for volunteers to draft the schedule, assist with scoreboards, act as rink coordinators, contact businesses regarding sponsors for the program, sending invoices, collect sponsorship money, organize and coordinate time keepers, assist with the website, schedule parent volunteers, coordinate prizes, act as rink contacts, coordinate the hospitality room etc.
If you feel you have some time, energy and skills to share and would like to volunteer with a group that puts on a very professional and widely respected event that helps reduce the costs for SPRMHA’s entire membership and have a great time while doing it, we want to hear from you!!!!
